- What is The Tape Daddy?
- It's a free 3D tape dispenser generator. You give it your tape roll's outer diameter, core diameter and width, and it builds a printable dispenser around it — the roll hangs and spins on a saddle cut to its core, and a sprung cutter carrying a utility blade shears the tape against the front lip.
- Will it fit my tape?
- Yes — that's the whole point. Office tape, washi, masking, packing or duct: enter the outer Ø, the core Ø and the width, and every part is re-sized around that roll. Match an unusual roll by measuring it and typing the numbers in.
- What do I get to print?
- One STL with both parts already laid out on the plate. The base is one print — floor, walls, the saddle the roll spins on, the two guide posts and the coil spring, all in one piece — and the cutter sits beside it, flipped over so its blade slot and pockets face up, which is the orientation it prints in. Nothing needs supports, and there's no hardware to buy but the blade.
- How does the cutter work?
- It drops over two guide posts and sits on a coil spring printed in place on the front lip. At rest the spring holds it up and your tape runs through the gap underneath; press it down and the blade shears the tape against the lip's edge, then the spring lifts it clear again. One tension number, 1 to 10, sets the wire thickness, and the tool warns you if the turns would fuse or the travel is more than the coil can give.
- Does the spring really print?
- Yes — it's a helical coil, so it carries the load as torsion spread along one continuous wire instead of folding at a corner the way a printed zigzag flexure does. It prints standing up on the lip with the base, and the tool keeps a printable gap between the turns for you.
- Does it work with Gridfinity?
- Yes. Turn on the Gridfinity base and the dispenser is built standing on standard 42 mm feet, with its footprint rounded up to whole grid units, so it drops into any Gridfinity baseplate. The feet print as part of the base, feet down, no supports. Leave it off and you get a flat bottom that sits on the bench.
- What blade does it take?
- A standard trapezoidal utility knife blade — roughly 61 mm long, 19 mm tall and 0.6 mm thick. The slot is sized from the blade's thickness plus your print fit and tapers to match the blade's sloped ends, so it wedges in instead of rocking. You set how far the cutting edge stands proud of the cutter's underside.
